Sixth Form
The discussion revealed that some students were very well-informed about climate change and the technical issues around both mitigation and adaptation. Some were motivated to attend our spring Climate Matters quarterly meeting with our MP, Charlie Maynard on April 12th and we look forward to seeing and hearing them there.
We’ll be asking other sixth forms whether they’d like to hear our presentation and debate climate change with us. If you’re school staff and interested, please get in touch!
And finally, here’s the link you need to go to Eventbrite and get your ticket to the MP Watch Witney spring Climate Matters meeting. It’s free and we’d love to see you.
MP Watch Witney recently spoke to the sixth form at Henry Box School in Witney. Gavin and Phoebe presented our work, then led a discussion after harvesting a word cloud of opinion in the room in answer to the question “What comes to mind when thinking about climate change?” You can see the word cloud itself below.
The most frequent word, sadly and alarmingly, was “Trump”. Most responses indicated a serious engagement with climate change. Some students were clearly extremely anxious. There were a few jokey, or rude, responses and perhaps some of these also indicate a challenging anxiety. Many emojis also appeared – are they eliminating written language?
