National Emergency Briefing
This makes a real difference - and so can you!
A National Emergency Briefing took place in Westminster recently. This was, and still is, an extraordinarily important climate event. Eight experts each spoke for ten minutes about one aspect of climate change. There was even a Lieutenant General speaking about national security, revealing climate change as a highly significant threat in several disturbing ways. The talks were sobering, to say the least.
The talks given at the briefing are being released as individual YouTube videos. They’re hard-hitting, but essential viewing, and we urge you to watch.
You can access them one by one from the website www.nebriefing.org.
Some 1,200 movers, shakers and influencers attended, by invitation. There were business leaders, media leaders, leaders of important social organisations. Every parliamentarian was invited, but only around 80 MPs turned up. In other words, around 570 did not! This is deplorable. We know that many MPs still don’t know the basic facts of climate change and don’t, apparently, take it (and our futures) seriously. We think this is professional negligence.
BUT: Please note that we asked Charlie Maynard, our MP, to attend, and he did. We have expressed our gratitude and appreciation.
We also have a request to make, whereby you can make a difference. Please read on …
Study after study shows that we don’t talk about climate change. Almost all of us are worried, but we stay schtum. Our silence, though, is deadly. It implies we have no opinion or don’t care. This silence allows politics to dither, delay or deny. To look the other way and postpone. Will you please, therefore, watch the videos and talk about them. Tell everyone about www.nebriefing.org and the YouTube talks available there. This really matters and you will make a difference.
The talks are being made into a viewer-friendly film which will be available in the spring. MP Watch Witney intends to take it to venues across our constituency and we hope to see you there. We’ll ask Charlie to come to discuss the issues with us at the Q & A sessions.
It’s good to talk! Actually, it’s urgent! Let’s do it!
