It’s Good to Talk! Politicians hardly ever talk about climate change. Why?

They say: “Well, it doesn’t come up on the doorstep”. In other words, we’re not talking about it and if we don’t, they won’t. This isn’t right, but it suits them and is probably true. So, what’s going on? Why the silence?

Those remarks come from a debate in the House of Commons (Feb 9^th 2023). Chris Skidmore (Conservative MP for Kingswood) was the chair of the Net Zero Review and was presenting his report.

Maybe it’s time for us to get cross? Dangerous climate changes are right round the corner. Science tells us this very clearly, very consistently and very unequivocally, but almost nobody in Westminster seems to get it.

AMOC? Oh please, not another acronym!

Well, yes. But this one is a real biggie. It’s the acronym for a new name for what we used to call the Gulf Stream. This new name is the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation.

Politics is a boisterous business. Passionate opinions do battle, ideas grapple and clash. Argument is robust and skins must be thick. But there must be rules.
